ALC minutes of March 14, 2006 were approved.
ET 351 Guidelines: The proposed guidelines of the February 7, 2006 meeting were reviewed.
The guidelines are as follows:
1. No course scheduled.
2. Use by students in team-based projects.
3. Use based on need for equipment resources (equipment: Polycom 7000 video conferencing unit, 2 desktop units, a Smartboard, an LCD projector)
4. No food or drink.
5. Mary Jane schedules.
6. Exceptions, contact Gerard Voland.
Gerard will define the vision for ET 351.
Searches - Moving Allowance Policy: There is a $10,000 cap on moving allowances for new faculty. Allowances may be paid by the unit (school/department) or the unit may propose an increase in the base salary for the prospective candidate with the proper approvals.
‘Round the Table:
Mary Jane: The scholarship luncheon is April 20. The ETCS chairs or representatives are invited to attend. This year more than $105,000 is being awarded to 47 students. Gerard’s goal for next year is to raise more scholarship money.
Hal: The SchoolDude System to submit work orders is in place. CAET will be hiring a visiting leader of the construction program this summer.
Sarah: Been meeting on SOAR. Penny is on vacation this week and Sarah will be at meeting in West Lafayette on Wednesday. Diann will cover the office on this day.
Carol: Mark Becker will interview Carol and the students of the winning Future City team on WBOI. Carol will provide a media packet to Mark and email the date it will be on the radio. A fifth school is coming on board for First Lego - it is IUPU Columbus. IUPU Columbus, Carol, and Science Central will have a combined booth at the Science and Engineering Fair at Indianapolis. The INSITE Challenge had seven high school students participate in the WP Bridge Design led by David Devine. In May, Peter Goodmann and Bruce Franke will help with a GPS program.
Ken M.: The second candidate for the MIET chair is here today. John Mitchell is doing a great job in showing the candidates the ETCS labs. The last candidate will be here next Monday, April 17. The next ETCS Colloquium will be this coming Monday in KT 146. Dr. Scott Holland will be the guest speaker. Dr. Elizabeth Thompson recommended him. TechTalk was distributed. Most departments sent copies to their IAC members and the college mailed copies to potential IAC members. Ken M. is collecting new material for the next issue. Gerard said that John Mitchell is producing more acrylic poster frames. We hope to have new posters by this fall celebrating students, alums, industry partners, faculty, staff and what they do.
Carlos: The MS proposal is in West Lafayette. The Senior Design presentations will be April 25-27. There will be six teams. There will be an announcement on their website. Engineering and Computer Science have been working together to see how engineering students do in CS courses.
Kim: Dave Clevinger is receiving the Advising Award this year. The OLS website goes live. Kim asked what departments are going through program review. There is a ½ day workshop on Thursday. Kim had a co-op visit at Regal Beloit. They are looking for good ETCS students with a combination of OLS and technology experience.
David: Mentioned that CS is moving things forward with meetings with Engineering.
Paul: They met with their IAC last Friday. In the future they will have their mission statement for the meeting and for new members. An offer was made for their faculty search and was verbally accepted. Their Senior Design Presentations will be on April 27-28 in ET 346 at 8:30 am - 1:00 pm. There will be two International Truck projects. The department is continuing to work on program enhancement issued. Pete applied for a summer instructional grant. Paul spoke with Paul deMond about the interview skills of students. The department is refining the electrical and computer engineering technology courses.
Coleen: She needs summer teaching schedules from CAET, ECET, and OLS.
Announcements:
Sarah Merchant received recognition for five years of service and that she received her MBA.
Carol announced the need for 4-6 student mentors and speakers from the departments for the summer Youth Program in July. Carol will email the committee more information about this.
