NSBE-IPFW is a part of NSBE Region IV. Programs we are involved in include study sessions; plant tours to local companies; resume workshop sessions; and partner programs with NSBE-Indiana Tech and NSBE-Fort Wayne Alumni chapters.
Membership is open to engineering, engineering technology, computer science and applied sciences majors.

Our three main focus areas for this school year are Professional and Career development, Academic Achievement and Community service.
1. Professional and Career Development:
» Professional Advancement Workshops
Sessions will be arranged where participating Academic Counseling and Career Support (ACCS) can review members’ resumes. After each session, members can upload or update their resumes on various Internet job banks. Other sessions that will be arranged are interviewing techniques and navigating career fair workshops. These sessions will also be held to teach members career fair etiquette/decorum and interview skills.

» Networking Events
There are several events, which occur during the school year that provide unique opportunities for students to network with industrial professionals. Some of these include the IPFW Society of Women Engineers Annual Opportunity Banquet held in October, the NSBE national and regional conferences and Purdue Career Fairs. The banquet and conferences require funding and we hope to sponsor members through as many events as possible.

2. Academic Achievement
» Study sessions in the evenings are an important part of our activities. This will create a forum for discourse between lower classmen and upperclassmen as well as amongst peers. Part of succeeding in college is understanding the structure of college life in all its diversity. This is only achieved through helping each other academically to excel.

3. Community Service
» NSBE - PCI:
Although a good GPA may look good on a resume, we understand the need for involvement in other activities that project our image as individuals and as an organization. The NSBE Pre-College Initiative (NSBE-PCI) Programs promotes college academics, technology and leadership. The main goal of this program is to encourage minority high school students to develop an interest in math, science and engineering. In the near future, we hope to start NSBE-PCI programs for the Fort Wayne area.

» Volunteering:
There are various opportunities during the year for volunteer work. Programs like these expose young minds to the world of engineering. We plan to execute the idea by participating in various community programs such as the Summer Bridge Program, the Upward Bound Program amongst others. Some of these programs are designed to reach out to high school students who are less likely to attend college. These programs need the help of college students to impel them to further their education. Some of these programs do not really encourage these students to go into a particular discipline; we believe that if at least one of our members participates in these programs, we would be able to encourage and motivate more students to explore the engineering discipline. Some already existing events we plan to enlist are the annual Lego League Competition held on the IPFW campus. The IPFW school of Engineering also organizes various activities for Engineering Week and we intend on being active in as many events as members can volunteer for.

» High School Tutoring:
High schools enlist the help of college students to tutor their students in math. Since most engineering students take more math classes than your average college student, engineering students are always encouraged to participate in such programs. In so doing, our members can assess which students have the potential to do engineering, math or science and encourage them in that direction.
